The North Carolina Vegetable Growers' Association
(NCVGA) was started in
1977 as a multi commodity trade organization. Our purpose is the
improvement and promotion of the North Carolina vegetable industry.Members are some of the state's finest vegetable producers,
both large and small, brokers, packers, shippers, and allied trade
organizations.
Benefits of Belonging to NCVGA
Strength in Numbers
There are over 2,000 commercial vegetable growers in North Carolina.
We represent an important part of the state economy, but because
we grow 22 different crops on 250,000 acres, we are often overlooked
as small potatoes!
A Common Voice
The NCVGA voice can and has influential local, state and federal legislation
on matters affecting our industry. For example: Support from NCVGA helped
to influence H2A labor programs, and got clearance of several new pesticides.
Issues Frequently Addressed Include:
Consolidation of labor regulations
Environmental issues
Pesticide clearances
PACA Legislation
Development Programs
The NCVGA influences research and extension programs at
NCSU.
These include, but are not limited to, areas such as varietal breeding,
irrigation, post-harvest handling, and pesticide practices.
Promotional Programs
NCVGA is an active participant in local, state and national programs,
such as "Goodness
Grows in North Carolina", "Flavors
of Carolina", and "Taste of Summer". Also, we work
with the
NCDA on crop
advertising campaigns.
